Social Sciences: Interdisciplinary Topics

In this course, students are introduced to Social Sciences, their methods and some of their applications in the fields of population movement and migration; labor and working conditions; and culture and cultural heritage.

Students that complete the course should be able to:

  • Understand the history and different theoretical approaches to social sciences,
  • Be able to discuss different methods in social science research and different paradigms of social sciences,
  • Understand different disciplines within social sciences,
  • Work with literature and present an assignment

 

Evaluation

Presentation and essay

Students should present orally and submit an essay that can provide up to 5/10 points of the overall evaluation. Essays will be presented on the 13th lecture. The deadline for the delivery of the paper is the 15th of June.

These essays can be either empirical or literature reviews and will be based on at least 2 peer reviewed papers that students should read and critically discuss. The selection of these papers will be done after consulting with the course instructors. The essay will be 1,500 to 2,500 words long; the presentation will last 10 minutes. Only the essay will be submitted (not the presentation files). All essays and presentations will be offered in English.
