N.B. : As there are NO end-of-semester exams for these two courses a minimum 85% of attendance is required for students to pass them (considering the syllabus mainly comprises oral practice in a range of issues necessary for further studies and/or for professional development).

In the first lecture, along with covering some introductory material, we will also discuss issues related to these two courses, such as the content (it is partially designed in collaboration with the students concerned), assessment, possible hour alteration if necessary etc..

What do we know about materials and the creative practices they give rise to? While last year’s event laid the groundwork for understanding what sustainability means for different actors across the wider field of fashion and crafts, this year’s event will use circularity as a tool to interlink the strengths of each stakeholder group, create a future with enhanced circular design, and explore how circular design can be applied to fashion, design and new businesses, as well as to consumer behaviour.

We aim to explore sustainable design, innovation and new materials, looking at new directions for natural, synthetic and mixed materials; consider how archival material can help us visualise the future by looking closely at the past; devise new models for creative industry, production and manufacture; examine the social and business environment; and lastly identify the changes that lie ahead for people – designers, businesses, educators, users and policymakers – as we move into more circular design contexts.

On the first day of our Circular Cultures programme, we will have the opportunity to examine current state-of-the-art circular design practices through a series of keynote talks, panel discussions and showcases of innovative materials and practices, while on day two, hands-on training through workshops will provide valuable know-how to emerging and established designers, policy makers and businesses in the design and fashion industries.

CISV (International Summer Village)

Dear all, do you know anything about CISV (the International Summer Village, initially for children, but now for adults too)? If not, the following video might interest you, either as potential participants or as potential trip (mission) leaders. (It’s in Greek.)

As leaders you work on a voluntary basis, yet all your expenses are covered. As participants the amount you need to pay is very low if I got it right.

You have the opportunity to travel around the world, spend time and share experiences with young people from different countries (…practice your English!) and also organize and be engaged in community projects such as combating environmental degradation, support for immigrants or an arts-based regeneration scheme.

The Secretary of CISV Greece (Alexandra Kosma) is a close friend of mine, so I can get further information (though in the video almost everything is explained). Watch especially the beginning to get the general idea and after the 29’, when Konstantinos Valmas enters the discussion. (Trainee lawyer, started participating in CISV when still a university student.)

Students are asked to go through the sample questions, as well as any sample answers given BEFORE the next lecture. Also, in the second file, there are some useful links which include many more typical, tricky or other type of questions, together with sample answers and/or tips on how to answer them.

In class, we will start practicing your answers to some of these questions I consider most crucial (but you can also select yourselves some questions which you may feel more insecure with and need to practice most).

Students are reminded that the old "English IV" course is NOT included any longer in the Dept. curriculum and is NOT replaced by any other English course. In other words, any students who may not have passed the old "English IV" course are NOT under any obligation whatsoever to take any other English course in its place in order to obtain their Diploma.

“English for Academic Purposes” is NOT its substitute. It is a newly introduced, selective course, which no student needs to select if they prefer another selective course. (For this reason, as well as due to the content of the course, consisting mainly of oral and writing practice, there may not even be set an exam at all at the end of the semester, and students will only pass through attendance and the completion of all the projects set during the semester.)

Accordingly, if any students registered for it by mistake, they should contact the Gramatia the soonest possible, so as to alter their Δήλωση Μαθημάτων.

Dear all, as you know, the "English IV" course does NOT comprise part of the curriculum any longer.

There is another, SELECTIVE. course, "English for Academic Purposes" ["E.A.P."] typically offered in the 8th semester, but can be taken by students of any semester (provided they have at least passed the old "English I" or the new "Preparatory English").

Clearly, E.A.P. does NOT replace the old "English IV". It's a completely new course, and is selective.

Accordinlgy, the current e-Class page of "English IV" is to be deleted and you will be unregistered.
