Minimum hours of attendance (33 hs.) equal the base pass mark, i.e. 5 ( along with some percentage of active participation). To this, further extra credits are added (depending on the level of active participation + assignments + presentation mark) or subtracted in the absence of one or more of the aforementioned factors.

Let me know a.s.a.p. in case I have overlooked sth (after you have checked all three sheets + the COMMENTS columns! )

N.B.: The students whose dpsd no. is in purple fill, even if they seem to be covering the minimum percentage of attendance hours, they are very borderline with active participation (which is an essential requirement to pass the course without taking the exam, as already said in class + described in the course description on eClass). > One last chance in the first lecture after the holiday to improve this if they wish.

Hi everybody. Pls inform me a.s.a.p. and not later than Wednesday, 11/6 if you intend to take the extra exam on "Eng. for SPECIFIC Purposes" this coming Friday (13/6), so that I prepare a timetable according to the number of participants + know how many questions to prepare.

The exam will be ORAL (similar format to the one followed in the online exams during the covid period) and will last for about 10 minutes per pair.

The venue is currently "Panagouli" room, but may change to room B.1.2 (you'll be informed).

The timetable with the exact start time for each pair is to be announced on Thursday, once I know the number of students who are to participate.

NOTE: See the two University Senate decisions and regulations for Oral exams,

the first in 2020:

N.B. : As there are NO end-of-semester exams for these two courses a minimum 85% of attendance is required for students to pass them (considering the syllabus mainly comprises oral practice in a range of issues necessary for further studies and/or for professional development).

In the first lecture, along with covering some introductory material, we will also discuss issues related to these two courses, such as the content (it is partially designed in collaboration with the students concerned), assessment, possible hour alteration if necessary etc..

Note 1: If the DPSD no. (column A) is in LIGHT green**, requirements to pass the course without exam are not fully covered* (i.e. either the assingment was done negligently and/or there was no active participation - or not sufficiently active). Dear all, as you must have seen I have arranged two make-up lectures for BOTH groups, both on Wednesday and on Thursday (always on condition that my partner's very critical condition remains at least stable, otherwise we'll find some other solution, don't worry).

NOTE 1: As there may not be sufficient time for all presentations to be delivered on the afore-mentioned two days, any students who could alternatively come on Tuesday instead of Thursday, can do so from 19.00 till 21.30 max, at the Amphitheatre, to deliver their presentations and attend those of the other students (the Tuesday unofficial lecture will be considered as a full lecture, I repeat instead of the Thursday one). I estimate about 8 or 9 presentations for Tuesday. - The students who prefer / are able to take this alternative should inform me by mail (first come, first served)

Note 2: I see that some students who are (or may be) eligible to pass without exam have paired with students who are NOT (potentially) eligible to do so and thus deliver a presentation instead. Dear all, due to a severe medical issue that my partner faced on Friday (and was eventually urgently transfered to Athens by helicopter on Saturday morning), I did not manage to complete the updated excel record during the weekend as I had promised. Moreover, as his condition became extremely critical on Monday morning, I also needed to travel to Athens this evening. Accordingly, I have set a deadline extension until Wednesday to upload your presentations. (The students who have already uploaded theirs, can always re-upload them with any minor improvements if they wish.)

I hope I will have completed the updated excel record within the next couple of days, so that you can all confirm whether you're eligible to pass without exam or not (and accordingly deliver a presentation instead of the exam).

Your presentations will either be delivered next week in person or, if this is not possible, online. - I will inform you in due time.

Dear all, even though group A significantly outnumbers group B, since the hours for group B have changed + considering it is not possible for some students to find a student from group A to swap with, the students who have sent me a request to join group A due to overlapping lectures may remain in group A without swapping.

Also, for the afore-mentioned reasons, if any group A students wish to move to group B, they can do so without swapping either, provided they notify me by mail asap .

Either way, it is reminded that now that the groups are finalized students are NOT allowed to change groups occasionally, at will.

Hi everybody. Η ψυχολόγος του Συμβουλευτικού Σταθμού του τμήματος κ. Λιάνα Τσαρουχά θα υλοποιήσει ένα εργαστήριο για την λειτουργία των ομάδων, στις εργασίες και οπουδήποτε αλλού καλούμαστε να συνεργαστούμε.

Μέσα από ασκήσεις και συζήτηση, θα δουλέψουμε, άλλοτε ατομικά και άλλοτε σε μικρές ή μεγαλύτερες ομάδες, πάνω στα ερωτήματα:

- Τι κουβαλάμε μέσα σε μια ομάδα εργασίας… εκτός απ’ τη δουλειά μας;

Το σεμινάριο θα έχει διάρκεια 3 συναντήσεις , στις ημερομηνίες 22/3, 29/3 και 5/4, ώρες 18.00- 20.30, στην αίθουσα «Παρθενώνας».

Απευθύνεται στους φοιτητές όλων των ετών που θα ήθελαν να εξερευνήσουν τις δυνατότητες και τις δυσκολίες που προκύπτουν όταν δουλεύουμε ομαδικά. Στόχος είναι να διευκολύνει τη συμμετοχή και την παραγωγικότητα στις ομαδικές εργασίες. Ιδιαίτερα συνιστάται στους φοιτητές των πρώτων ετών που αντιμετωπίζουν για πρώτη φορά την πρόκληση των ομαδικών εργασιών.

As there is a large number of Presentations to be delivered, some presentations need to be arranged for TUESDAY, 17/1, from 19.30 to 21.00, at the Amphitheatre. (Also, on Wednesday and Thursday presentations will continue after the end of the lecture.)

The students who are available to deliver their presentation on Tuesday are requested to notify me by mail. - Presentation delivery and attendance on Tuesday will count as half a lecture attendance (= 1.5 hours), so these students can come later or leave earlier on Wednesday/Thursday.

b) Assignment 2 > they can still upload it until Wednesday, 11 Jan., MORNING! a) Students who may be quarantined due to covid on the day of the exam and wish be examined on a later date should notify me by mail AT THE LATEST 2 hours BEFORE the exam. Any students who may not notify me in due time before the exam will NOT be eligible to an alternative exam session.

Dear all, internet and phone services have been down in the area where I live since Monday night (due to a thunderbolt), so I have no access to eMail, eClass or any other digital service (unknown when the damage will be repaired…)

On the other hand, my desktop at the office has been dragging its heels during the last 1.5 years (takes ages to open a simple file or a mail message etc) + sometimes the screen does not switch on at all for some inexplicable reason.

Accordingly, I can hardly read mail, let alone send one. - Students can discuss any issues with me during me office hours (i.e. every Tuesday and Thursday evening).

(If I am not at my office -due to my desktop problems-, I will be either in room B 1.2 or B 1.3, whichever is vacant.)

N.B.: Some of the students who were in purple fill in the previous excel record (still on eClass) did not do the alternative assignment either, so these students (now in white) are NO longer eligible to deliver a presentation and pass the course without exam - they need to take the exam.

It is once again noted that it is the students' responsibility to (also) check their partner's status. If their partner is not in green fill, they need to match with another student (and decide which of the two prepared presentations they will deliver).

DPSD numbers in green fill indicate these students are or could be OK where participation + assignments are concerned to pass the course by presentation instead of exam (PROVIDED a minimum 85% of active participation is completed by the end of the semester).

DPSD numbers in purple fill indicate that these students seem to be OK with minimum participation (as long as the minimum percentage is completed by the end of the semester), BUT have NOT done one of the assignments set. To give a second chance: a) the students who have not done the assignment on "Mechanisms - Vocabulary" should do it and upload it by 6 January, at 17.00, b) the students who have not done one of the other assignments ("Design Thinking ..." or "Politics & Pluralism ...") should do an extra assignment I will set especially for them, on a different text - deadline: 6 January, at 17.00 .

Happy (and healthy!) new year everybody. In case you are not informed about the Minisrty of Education decision (8/1/22 decree), nor have read the message sent by the University Rector (see below), the lectures (and the presentations) will be done as scheduled and in-person (i.e. NOT online), in other words in the same way they were carried out before the holidays (otherwise they cannot be officialy recognised as done, so the course will be considered as not completed).

In the case where there are few students present this week, obviously next week there will NOT be sufficient time for everybody to deliver a presentation during the remaining one lecture, so students who are not present in this week's lectures should have this in mind.

N.B.: Any covid-struck students will be allowed to deliver their presentations next week PROVIDED they submit a medical certification. (Considering attendance is NOT compulsory, the medical certification will only cover students where their presentations are concerned. - Extra credits for attendance/participation canNOT obviously be given to students who are absent.)

Η έναρξη της εκπαιδευτικής λειτουργίας αύριο Δευτέρα για την ολοκλήρωση των μαθημάτων του εξαμήνου μας βρίσκει σε μια πολύ δύσκολη φάση κορύφωσης του νέου πανδημικού κύματος. Γνωρίζω ότι όλες και όλοι θέλουμε να επανέλθουμε, αλλά ταυτόχρονα είμαστε ιδιαίτερα ανήσυχες και ανήσυχοι για τους εκρηκτικούς ρυθμούς διασποράς του ιού, καθώς, με βάση τα δεδομένα, η επικρατούσα Όμικρον μετάλλαξή του επιφέρει μεν ηπιότερα συμπτώματα, ιδιαίτερα στους εμβολιασμένους, αλλά είναι εξαιρετικά μεταδοτική και πλήττει και ανεμβολίαστους και εμβολιασμένους.

Αναμέναμε τις τελευταίες μέρες εγκύκλιο του Υπουργείου Παιδείας για τον τρόπο ολοκλήρωσης του εξαμήνου, αλλά μόλις σήμερα Κυριακή δημοσιοποιήθηκε το ΦΕΚ με την «Κοινή Υπουργική Απόφαση ΔΙα/Γ.Π.οικ. 746/2022 - ΦΕΚ 32/Β/8-1-2022» που αφορά στα μέτρα που θα ισχύσουν από αύριο και έως τις 17 Ιανουαρίου 2022. Το εν λόγω ΦΕΚ επιβεβαιώνει ότι όλες οι εκπαιδευτικές λειτουργίες των Ανωτάτων Εκπαιδευτικών Ιδρυμάτων (προπτυχιακά, μεταπτυχιακά, πρακτικές, κλπ.) συνεχίζουν να διεξάγονται με τους ίδιους όρους και προϋποθέσεις που διεξάγονταν από το Σεπτέμβριο, δηλαδή με φυσική παρουσία.

Ειδικότερα όσον αφορά στη διεξαγωγή των μαθημάτων, ρητά αναφέρεται ότι:

«Η διεξαγωγή κάθε μορφής εκπαιδευτικής διαδικασίας στο πλαίσιο προγραμμάτων α΄, β΄ και γ΄ κύκλου σπουδών των Α.Ε.Ι., όπως η διδασκαλία μαθημάτων (υποχρεωτικών, υποχρεωτικής επιλογής ή ελεύθερης επιλογής), η διενέργεια σεμιναρίων, η αυτοτελής διδασκαλία μαθημάτων εμβάθυνσης σε μικρές ομάδες φοιτητών, οι εργαστηριακές ασκήσεις, οι κλινικές ασκήσεις και η πρακτική εξάσκηση φοιτητών πραγματοποιούνται υποχρεωτικά δια ζώσης…»

Στο πλαίσιο αυτό και παρά τους σοβαρούς κοινούς μας προβληματισμούς, προσερχόμαστε αυτή τη βδομάδα στις αίθουσες και τα εργαστήριά μας με ιδιαίτερη προσοχή και μέτρα προστασίας και της υγείας μας και της υγείας των συνανθρώπων μας.

Προσερχόμαστε στους πανεπιστημιακούς χώρους μόνο εφόσον είμαστε υγιείς και έχουμε κάνει test για να το επιβεβαιώσουμε. Φοράμε μάσκα υψηλής προστασίας και τηρούμε όλα τα μέτρα υγιεινής και, κατά το δυνατόν, κοινωνικής αποστασιοποίησης. Και βέβαια όσες ή όσοι δεν έχουν ακόμα εμβολιαστεί, σπεύδουν να εμβολιαστούν προκειμένου να θωρακιστούν από σοβαρή νόσηση.

Ας ξεκινήσουμε λοιπόν αύριο με ιδιαίτερη προσοχή, χωρίς να παραβλέπουμε και να υποτιμούμε, αλλά ούτε και να υπερτιμούμε τις δυσκολίες που θα αντιμετωπίσουμε. Ως πανεπιστήμιο αποδείξαμε από την επάνοδό μας το Σεπτέμβρη δια ζώσης ότι μπορούμε να λειτουργήσουμε και να δημιουργήσουμε μαζί στο φυσικό μας χώρο μέσα σε συνθήκες πανδημίας, με ελάχιστα προβλήματα και συγκριτικά ελάχιστα κρούσματα. Πιστεύω ότι πάλι μαζί μπορούμε να το επαναλάβουμε και κατά την τρέχουσα περίοδο.

Την ερχόμενη Τετάρτη 12.1.2022 θα έχουμε Έκτακτη Σύνοδο Πρυτάνεων προκειμένου να συζητήσουμε διεξοδικότερα τον τρόπο διεξαγωγής των εξετάσεων και θα σας ενημερώσω για ότι σχετικό.

The exam is to be administered on BBB, via eClass. - Two teleconferences are opened on eClass: a) an “anteroom”, b) an exam “room” (you can enter the “rooms” via the two invitations sent by email – alternatively, you can enter through the eClass calendar). Students are reminded that they are to connect to the anteroom (NOT the Exam room until they are asked by the examiner to do so) about 15 minutes before the time they are scheduled to be examined.

If any students do not connect on time, it will be considered that they decided to abstain from the exam. Students will be examined in pairs.

The students who have filled in the exam participation form are expected to have uploaded their student ID card on eClass by 20/9/21, 17.00 at the latest! (an “assignment” has been set on eclass for this purpose). - The uploaded files should be clear and large enough so that their photo and personal details are adequately discernible.

- The students in purple fill are borderline for different reasons; in most (though not all) cases because they have either not submitted some assignment(s) or because their assignments were overdue. - In this case, they should normally take the exam to pass the course. Exceptionally for this year, these students who have had very active participation may still pass the course without taking the exam PROVIDED they do another assignment instead (of similar nature). Students are informed that late submission has been enabled for those students who did not upload their assingment by the deadline. (Submission after the deadline will of course affect the mark but the assignnment will be considered as completed PROVIDED it is uploaded BEFORE the lecture for the respective group.)

It should be reminded that the deadline was meticulously discussed during the lecture and we all agreed that: a) It was only fair to be the same for both groups, b) That it could not extend beyond Monday afternoon as I also needed some time to go through the students' answers before the Tuesday lecture, c) That 4 full days, a weekend included, for only 3 questions (requiring a brief answer) on a text that had already been read and discussed in class would normally be sufficient time.

Note: The students who have sent theirs by mail should UPLOAD THEM ON eCLASS! (my mailbox cannot take up so much load, so I had to delete them)

INSTRUCTIONS for participating in the online exam:

Two teleconferences are opened on BBB: a) an “anteroom”, b) an exam “room”. All students should first connect to the anteroom. Through this “room”, they will be notified to enter the exam “room”. Students are NOT allowed to enter the exam “room” without prior notification! (via the anteroom)

Students are requested to enter the anteroom about 15 minutes before the time they are scheduled to be examined.

The students who are already examined are NOT allowed to return to the anteroom, but they should totally disconnect from the platform.

It is reminded that students who do not use a camera and headphones will not be allowed to participate. Also, all students should present on camera their university ID or, alternatively, a physical, government-issued photo identification document (ID).

It is the students’ responsibility to check the function of their camera and headphones, as well as their internet connection, BEFORE the exam, according to the technical support team’s instructions. COURSE marks also on e-class, excel file titled: “ E.S.P_e Class v._COURSE-Exam Marks_Attend._Assgns._Notes_Fall'19-'20 ” – 3^rd sheet.

It is reminded that minimum attendance offers a 5/10. Further credits may be added depending on participation in class, timely submission of assignments, presentation mark etc.

Similarly, credits are subtracted in the case of overdue (or no) submissions, lack of or very limited participation etc.

In other words, it is a combination of factors that determine the mark, apart from the hours of attendance.

Any students who may be unhappy with the marks they earned through attendance/participation/projects could take the September exam (either by applying for mark improvement at the Registrations Office in September or by notifying me by Monday, 2/3, morning to record a “fail” mark on classweb now). – In this case, in line with the Dept. regulations, it is the second mark that is finally taken into consideration, i.e. the September mark.

(Any extra credits gained during the semester are still valid for September of the same academic year.)

This two-day event aims to build on the experience of Crafting the Future and take the programme one step further, focusing on building interconnections and stronger ties between stakeholders in the fashion, design and crafts industries with a view to creating a more sustainable and ethical ecosystem.

While last year’s event laid the groundwork for understanding what sustainability means for different actors across the wider field of fashion and crafts, this year’s event will use circularity as a tool to interlink the strengths of each stakeholder group, create a future with enhanced circular design, and explore how circular design can be applied to fashion, design and new businesses, as well as to consumer behaviour.

We aim to explore sustainable design, innovation and new materials, looking at new directions for natural, synthetic and mixed materials; consider how archival material can help us visualise the future by looking closely at the past; devise new models for creative industry, production and manufacture; examine the social and business environment; and lastly identify the changes that lie ahead for people – designers, businesses, educators, users and policymakers – as we move into more circular design contexts.

On the first day of our Circular Cultures programme, we will have the opportunity to examine current state-of-the-art circular design practices through a series of keynote talks, panel discussions and showcases of innovative materials and practices, while on day two, hands-on training through workshops will provide valuable know-how to emerging and established designers, policy makers and businesses in the design and fashion industries.

Hi all. I assume you must have seen the official announcement for the group A transfer lecture for Friday (15.00-18.00). Are there any group A students who could attend the Thursday lecture instead (i.e. with group B), in case some group B students cannot make it on Thursday?? It would do even if they can only make it for only the first or the last hour of the Thursday lecture, so as to deliver their presentation, and then come later or leave earlier on Friday. If yes, pls let me know asap. (As it is obvious, I cannot allow student transfer from one group/day to the other without swaps, as there won't be enough time to have students' presentations from both groups during the same lecture.)

In any case, any students who may be absent either on Thursday or on Friday need to upload their presentation so that I know it's prepared on time. The deadline is extended until Sunday, 12/1.

N.B.: The above on condition that ships will travel tomorrow, Thursday...

Tuesday lecture postponed

"Blue Star" notified us a while ago that today's itinerary from Piraeus to Syros will not be operated (even though I changed tomorrow's tickets for today as the travel agency assured me that ships would sail today). Also, we were notified that there will most probably be a ban on sail until Tuesday included. Accordingly, the Tuesday lecture will have to be postponed.

Group A students are informed that I have asked the Registrations Office if we can have a transfer lecture on Friday, 10/1, hours: 15.00-18.00 and am awaiting for a response. – An announcement will be issued accordingly once I get a reply (i.e. Tuesday morning).

For the students who have passed the course through attendance/participation/projects it is noted that minimum attendance (i.e. 33 hours) should normally offer a 5/10. – To it, further credits may be added depending on class participation and presentation mark (and/or deducted in the case of any penalties).

As has already been pointed out, it is a combination of factors that determine the mark, apart from the hours of attendance. That is, these are regarded jointly with active participation and the effort invested in presentations.

As mentioned in class last week, the short quiz for the students who were absent the weeks before and after the holidays is to be administered this Monday, 21/1, at 20.00 pm (room B.1.2) - it will last for ab. 15 mins.

The quiz for Group A students will examine the vocabulary on the article titled "Synthesis" (see worksheet).

The quiz for Group B students will examine the vocabulary in the 2nd and 3rd columns, i.e. properties and uses (see handout titled "Materials") + some extra terms given on the board (see other students' notes)

Crafting the Future

Looking at new values for the future of sustainable fashion and design

Crafting the Future is a two-day programme that brings excellence and expertise in crafts together with innovation and new technologies as applied to fashion and design, paying particular attention to the issue of sustainability.

Crafting the Future will showcase inspirational speakers and a panels of experts, raise the right questions and advance potential solutions, as well as provide opportunities for everyone from young professionals to absolute beginners to explore the art of making, altering, repairing and caring for our clothes.

The growth of the global fashion industry has also meant a growth in the global consumption of clothing and, as a result, there is an increasing interest in sustainable and ethical approaches to garment design, manufacturing and business operations. Greater consumer awareness of the working conditions of supply chain workers and the environmental impact of mass production has led fashion brands and retailers to consider how to transform the industry through the adoption of more sustainable business practices.

Crafting the Future will critically explore sustainability, innovation and the use of sustainable materials in fashion, technology as a means to increase transparency in the supply chain, and, in particular, the role of crafts in the complex landscape in which the fashion industry operates.

A key element of the Crafting the Future programme is connecting cultures in order to facilitate knowledge sharing. By bringing together expertise from the UK and many other countries, the programme aims to provide fertile ground for the exchange of ideas and experiences in the field of innovative and pioneering sustainable practices.

With a focus on crafts as a means to innovate, the two-day event will explore the importance of artisans in the modern-day fashion supply chain, the relationship between crafts and culture, as well as the need to protect skills and natural resources. Innovation is not just about technology but also about looking back in order to move forward, embracing past wisdoms, updating and adopting them as modern values and practices, and modifying them so that they form an integral part of our future.

Any students who are planning to register for the course "English for Specific Purposes" (= "Αγγλικά για Ειδικούς Σκοπούς") are informed that the lectures will start, as scheduled, TODAY, Tuesday 2/10 (group A), and Thursday 4/10 (group B).

7^th semester students are divided into groups as follows:

Dear all, I’ve decided to eventually cover the occupation hours. As you will notice in the following announcement by the Registrations Office, there is a small change in the hours we had agreed in class due to restrictions in all parties’ timetables. However, on Tuesday, GROUP A students are requested to come AT 19.00-20.00 (instead of 20.00-21.00).

20.00-21.00 is only for Group B students as the latter have another transfer lecture until 20.00.

On Wednesday, hours: 19.00-21.00, the lecture is common for both Groups.

It should be noted that these transfer lecture hours will NOT be done in the case of low student attendance!

Dear all, the students who seem to be covering a minimum number of attendance hours to deliver a presentation on e-Class > Documents (bottom), excel file titled: "E.S.P_e-Class v._Attend._Proj._Qui._Exs._Notes_Marking_Fall'17-'18". These are the students marked in green fill. - Check hours, comments (and any presentations recorded so far) in case there are any mistakes!

As these sum up to about 40 students, there is no time for more presentations (i.e. even IF the 39 hours are eventually covered for the course to be considered as completed), and, in any case, they could not be taken into consideration given the lack of some minimum attendance which would be required so as to lead to further practice of the material taught through a presentation.

“ Select a mechanism, a piece of equipment, any mechanical object etc. OTHER THAN the ones discussed in class and present it.”

The following aspects should be discussed:

- what it is used for

its parts and components
the materials used and their properties
the technology involved
the principles on which its function is based

(how it works, incl. motion of the most basic components)

the purpose it is aimed for and/or any possible applications ”

ALTERNATIVELY

“Present and compare two Design movements/trends/schools and their interaction with the social context. Discuss their basic principles, characteristics, sources of influence etc.”

➾ Note 1: an on-screen presentation is imperative

➾ Note 2: students can have the main points of their presentation in note form (e.g. bullets), but NO text is allowed, i.e. NO full sentences! (It would be advisable to present the same notes/main points on screen, next to each picture). Also, students should use THEIR OWN WORDS in communicating information from the sources consulted.

➾ Note 3: the students who deliver a presentation are expected to explain to their audience in plain English any difficult word or specialized term they may use!

➾ Note 4: presentations should not be shorter than 5 mins., nor should they exceed 10 mins.

Important note:

In the Thursday group, apart from the 7th sem. students, I tried to incliude all 9th sem. students (at least the ones who were present at the first lecture). That makes this group three times as crowded as the Wednesday group...! (considering that the Wednesday group actual student number is much smaller as to this any students who are registered but do not attend have also been added).

Due to the difficulties that this numerical imbalance causes, ANY STUDENTS (incl. students from the 7th semester) WHO CAN ATTEND THE WEDNESDAY GROUP instead of the Thursday one ARE REQUESTED TO DO SO ! (and inform me accordingly asap)

Also, there are already some students (9th or 7th sem.) WHO ATTENDED THE WEDNESDAY LECTURE during the first week (see GRAY FILL) - These students are to be TRANSFERED TO THE WEDNESDAY Group, UNLESS THEY INFORM ME OTHERWISE. (And are asked to to so as of today if possible.)

It is reminded that the alternative to pass the course without taking the end-of-semester exam is offered ONLY to those students who :

a) Have successfully completed the “English Preparatory” (in case they were placed in it on entering the Department) AND "English-Terminology" courses (or their former equivalents “Eng. I” and "Eng.II"),

b) Have NOT registered for another course the lectures of which OVERLAP with the particular English course. (Overlapping courses registration lists are checked by the end of each semester before submitting marking.)

If any of the afore-mentioned prerequisites is not fulfilled, students can only pass the particular English course by taking the end-of-semester exam. Also, extra credits for attendance are not offered in this case.

7th sem. students on THURSDAYS! (Group B)

As a large number of 7th semester students are unable to attend Group A on Wednesdays according to what was discussed in class last week, as of this coming week there will be a change in the Groups as follows:

- 7th semester students are placed in Group B = T H U R S D A Y S, and 3rd semester students in Group A = Wednesdays.

- For students from other semesters, there will be an effort to cover their preferences as these were stated last week, provided a numerical balance between the two groups can be kept. - Alternatively, they can find a student from the other group to swap with (and notify me!!)

Dear all, this is to confirm that on Wednesday, 7/12, the English lecture for group A will be delivered as scheduled.

(Until the 21/12 included, we will have covered 11 lectures. There are 2 more weeks of lectures after the holiday > total: 13 weeks.)

However, with group B there is a serious (double) problem:

a) Given holidays and strikes, until 20/12 (last lecture for this group before the holidays) we will have covered only 10 lectures (considering the split into two Tuesdays, 13 & 20/12, transfer lecture). Plus 2 lectures after the holiday > total: 12 weeks (= course incomplete!)

(During the transfer lecture week before the exams I may need to be in Athens, so we cannot count on this.)

b) The two groups should keep up with one another, but this week only group A will have a lecture.

Fridays cannot be used as the 7^th and 9^th semester timetable is full, while on Saturdays we are not allowed to arrange transfer lectures (and I would prefer to avoid it, regardless).

We could UNofficially have a lecture on Thursday, 8/12, while officially record it on another day (e.g. Thursday, 15/12, 18.00-21.00, i.e. 3 more –plasmatic- hours), yet I would like to think about it, not being so keen on it… - Any ideas and suggestions welcome.

Dear all, do you know anything about CISV (the International Summer Village, initially for children, but now for adults too)? If not, the following video might interest you, either as potential participants or as potential trip (mission) leaders. (It’s in Greek.)

As leaders you work on a voluntary basis, yet all your expenses are covered. As participants the amount you need to pay is very low if I got it right.

You have the opportunity to travel around the world, spend time and share experiences with young people from different countries (…practice your English!) and also organize and be engaged in community projects such as combating environmental degradation, support for immigrants or an arts-based regeneration scheme.

The Secretary of CISV Greece (Alexandra Kosma) is a close friend of mine, so I can get further information (though in the video almost everything is explained). Watch especially the beginning to get the general idea and after the 29’, when Konstantinos Valmas enters the discussion. (Trainee lawyer, started participating in CISV when still a university student.)

Dear all, as we agreed in class, I'm uploading two suggested presentation topics [see below] to select one for the presentations to be delivered right after the holidays. This coming week we are going to discuss them in class and any inquiries will be answered.
